Asian Pacific Health Corps

History

Founded in 1980, the Asian Pacific Health Corps (APHC) has been devoted to serving disadvantaged API communities that have minimal access to health care and limited financial resources. APHC student volunteers provide free blood pressure and body mass index/ body fat percentage screenings at local health fairs, festivals, and churches in the Los Angeles area.

Mission 

The Asian Pacific Health Corps (APHC), a student volunteer organization, provides free health resources to the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community and educate them about prevalent diseases while also fostering the personal development of student volunteers. aims to educate and offers free screenings to detect hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol in local Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities.

Services 

1APHC offer blood pressure trainings (certified by American Red Cross), body mass index and body fat percentage screenings.

2APHC collaborates with Herald Christian Health Center to distribute fecal occult blood test (FOBT) kits that screen for colorectal cancer.

3APHC attends weekly health fairs and major events around the greater Los Angeles Area to provide free health screenings for the disadvantaged Asian Pacific Islander Population. APHC will also host four health fairs this coming year: Monterey Park Health Fair in the Fall, Our Lady of Peace in the Winter (collaborate with LSHP and PCH), our 1st health fair in Alhambra in the Winter, Chinatown Community Health Fair in the Spring.

4We offer 50 leadership positions throughout the year to encourage volunteers to improve their communication skills while also becoming more involved in the community.
