Established in 1978, the Latino Student Health Project’s mission is to provide preventative health education and services to underrepresented communities who do not have access to health insurance or healthcare.
LSHP serves medically underserved communities by promoting health awareness through health fair and health sites. Undergraduate students are able to interact with recipients and give presentations about chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cholesterol and hypertension.
Volunteers seek to educate recipients about prevention and healthier lifestyle options by disseminating bilingual information and resources at various Los Angeles County locations. LSHP also has a quarterly trip to Tecate, Mexico where free health education and health services are shared with members of the community.
