The Campus Retention Committee (CRC) oversees the funding, evaluation and operations of the Student Retention Center (SRC), which is a collective effort of students from historically underserved communities. HistoryThe CRC is the first student-initiated, student-run, and student-funded retention project in the nation. Created through student activism, the CRC project is the only student service on campus directly accountable to students. These projects are designed to assist undergraduate students with academic difficulties and cultural & social transitions.
ProjectsThe projects at SRC are comprised of five different components from academic advising to personal counseling that assist students with various educational needs. Those who have continued their education at a collegiate level understand that academic difficulty occurs for a variety of reasons. Many of these reasons are associated with academic under preparation, financial difficulty, cultural and social isolation. The CRC have been instrumental in recognizing and addressing these critical issues through the Student Retention Center projects. In doing so, the SRC has been successful in increasing retention and graduate rates among students from communities with a history of low UCLA graduation rates. There are six (6) projects in the Student Retention Center that administer services to over a thousand UCLA students. The project receives funding through successful student referendum measures approved in 1969, 1990, 1993, 1999, 2005 and 2009. The Campus Retention Committee administers funding, evaluates projects, and oversees operations for its Center.
